Hey team,
Last night marked our first class at the new venue, and what a moment that was. Things were tight on timeframes, and the last week has been a bit of a sprint, but we managed to get everything sorted just in time to step on the mats together in our new home.
It wasn’t glamorous. It wasn’t fully finished. But it was ours!
A huge, genuine thank you to everyone who gave up time over the weekend to help paint, clean, move mats, and get the space ready. Without you, we simply wouldn’t have made it in time. I’m incredibly grateful.

Important Notice – New Permanent Home
From this week onwards, all classes will now take place at:
22/23 Ravenswood Industrial Estate, E17 9HQ
This is officially our new home.
Phase 1 of the refurb is now complete, and you’ll start to see big changes week by week as the space continues to evolve. We’ve got lots planned:
More classes
Bigger mat space
Proper changing rooms
Showers
Expanded timetable
And plenty more
The last week was a crazy push because we couldn’t host classes at St Mary’s, but I’m proud that we adapted and made it happen.
Classes This Week
Gi Fundamentals - You’ll have some guest instructors this week, teaching what they enjoy and specialise in — which is always a great opportunity to experience different styles and perspectives.
I’ll still be in for all classes as well 🙂
Wednesday — Ben teaching
Friday — Stacey teaching (I’d love to see a big female turnout if possible!)
No Gi Fundamentals with Chris - You’ll continue working on top half guard, focusing on how to control the hips, flatten your opponent, win the underhook battle, and progress your passing.
Half guard can feel like a “stuck” position, but from the top it’s actually a powerful passing platform when you understand pressure, head positioning, and how to clear the knee line properly.
Judo with Justin - This week’s focus will be on gripping. Understanding grips is fundamental in Judo - how to establish them, how to break them, and how to control distance and posture before committing to a throw. Strong gripping makes everything else easier. Weak gripping makes everything harder. This is a really important foundation to build.
Wrestling for BJJ with Mehmet - You’ll continue working on front headlocks, including entries into the Darce and Guillotine. The goal isn’t just finishing but learning how to control the head, manage pressure, and move intelligently around your partner to secure dominant positions.
From Next Week – Timetable Changes
We’re starting to gradually roll out our expanded timetable.
Judo will move from Friday to Monday.
New Judo schedule starting 23/02/2026:
Monday — 19:15 to 20:30
Wednesday — 19:15 to 20:30
On Fridays (19:15 – 20:45) we’ll now have a weekly open mat.
Open mats are your time. Come drill. Come roll. Come work Judo. Come experiment.
They’re one of the best ways to refine and test your skills on your own terms.
Over the next few weeks, we’ll continue making gradual additions and adjustments until we have a comprehensive offering for everyone to take advantage of.
Tip of the Week-“Enjoy the unfinished stage.”
The gym isn’t fully built yet. Your Jiu Jitsu isn’t fully built yet. That’s okay.
There’s something special about being part of something while it’s still taking shape — both in the space around you and in your own development. Don’t rush to the finished version. Build it properly.
Thank you all for being part of the growth so far!
See you on the mats,
— Mouncif,
E17 BJJ
