Promotions Done - Progress Continues! - E17 BJJ Weekly Newsletter 08/12/25

Hey team,

A huge congratulations again to everyone who was promoted last week! It was amazing to see so many of you level up — every belt and stripe was well earned. The progress across the room has been incredible, and it’s a pleasure to see the team growing in confidence, skill, and spirit.

This Week’s Focus

Gi — Passing the Guard - This week we’ll be focusing on passing the guard, starting with how to safely open closed guard and then how to deal with your partner’s frames as you begin to pass. We’ll look at posture, pressure, and creating the right angles to make your passing smoother and more effective.

No-Gi — Turtle Attacks & Crucifix (Tue + Thu) - We’ll be working on how to break down the turtle position, expose openings, and enter the crucifix for strong finishing options.

Saturday No-Gi with Mehmet — Wrestling - Mehmet will continue to build your wrestling

fundamentals this Saturday — movement, entries, and takedown mechanics for No-Gi.

Judo — Ko Soto Gari - We’ll be working on Ko Soto Gari, a clean and reliable foot sweep that relies on timing and shifting your partner’s weight off their base. A great throw to link straight into top control.

Schedule Note

I will be away from this Saturday, and Emmanuel will be covering all Gi classes until I return.

Chris will continue teaching No-Gi, and Mehmet will take over the Saturday No-Gi sessions.

Make sure to show up, ask questions, and make the most of the team covering this week!

If you’ve ever wanted a training holiday that mixes rolls, waves, and good vibes — this is the one

Tip of the Week -If you get stuck, ask the person who stuck you.

One of the fastest ways to improve is to ask questions. If someone sweeps you, submits you, or controls you consistently, don’t leave puzzled — ask them how they did it. Most teammates are more than happy to share the detail you’re missing. Curiosity accelerates progress more than anything else.

See you on the mats!
