Hey team,
Hope you all had a great weekend!
Things were a little quieter last week as the holidays kicked off, but that just means more space and more time for focused rounds on the mats!
E17 BJJ T-Shirts – On Sale Now
We’ve got a fresh drop of E17 BJJ tees—available in a range of sizes for £20. Just ask before or after class if you want to grab one!
This Week’s Training Focus
Fundamentals- We will be covering back takes from side control, and once we get there, attacking and retaining back mount. Learn this transition will sharpen both your offence and your ability to control the pace of a roll. It will also compliment your game nicely with the work we have done last week on taking your partner down, and immediately passing the guard, giving you a clear path in your rolls to aim for!
Intermediate- Depending on class size, we’ll warm up with guard retention drills, then move into submissions from guard, with plenty of sparring and time for technical adjustments throughout.

Upcoming Cover – Classes with Manny
I’ll be away for various reasons on the following dates:
Friday 1st August
Wednesday 6th August
Friday 8th August
In my place, Emmanuel will be covering. If you haven’t trained with Manny before, you’re in for a treat—he’s technical, friendly, and always brings a great vibe to class!
E17 BJJ Summer BBQ – Sunday 3rd August, 3PM
Mark your calendars! We’re hosting a community BBQ at the gym on Sunday 3rd August at 3pm.
No training—just good food, good vibes, and a chance to hang out off the mats. Feel free to bring a friend or partner!
E17 BJJ Video
Thanks to everyone who took part in making our video shoot a few weeks back, making the mats as busy as possible and showcasing what E17 BJJ is all about :) The content gathered was amazing, and will also be used for some reels to help advertise the gym on socials in the near future.
If you are interested in watching the clip, I have attached the link below!
Tip of the Week – Back Mount - The bottom hook is always the most important
The bottom hook is the key to control. If you lose your bottom hook, your opponent has a much easier time escaping. But don’t panic—switch sides and aim to make your top hook become the new bottom hook. Stay connected, adjust as they move, and keep your anchor in place. Positional control before submission, always.
See you on the mats!
