Hi everyone,

Hope you had a great weekend and enjoyed your sessions with Emmanuel last week. I’m back on the mats teaching this week.

Just a reminder that we have some great t-shirts available for purchase at the gym!

This Week’s Classes

Fundamentals -This week we’re focusing on top front mount — control and submissions. We’ll be looking at how to stay heavy, control your opponent’s movements, and work patiently toward high-percentage finishes.

Open Class - Straight after fundamentals, we’ll roll into the open class. This is your time to spar, troubleshoot, and work on anything you want with training partners of all levels.

Big News!

From week commencing 25th of August, we’re adding three more classes across three more days each week!

Tuesdays & Thursdays - 18:30–19:30 — No-Gi

Saturday -10:00–11:00 — No-Gi

These new classes will run at a different location — the food court upstairs at 17&Central (formerly The Mall, Walthamstow). All existing classes will still be held at St Mary’s Welcome Centre, so for the time being, we’ll be operating across two venues until our permanent home is ready.

This will bring the total number of days we have classes on to 6!

Thank You for Your Reviews

A big thank you to everyone who’s already left us a review — it really does make a difference! If you haven’t had a chance yet, we’d really appreciate a minute of your time. Every review helps us reach more people and grow the E17 BJJ community.

Tip of the Week — Front Mount

When you secure mount, remember: you’re already winning the positional battle. There’s no need to rush or force things. Stay calm, keep your weight low, and control their hips. Your opponent is in one of the worst positions possible — use that to your advantage.

Take your time to read their reactions. Are they pushing on your chest? That could open up an armbar or Americana. Are they turning to their side? That might expose the back. The key is patience — the more composed you are, the more mistakes your opponent will make. And in Jiu-Jitsu, mistakes mean opportunities.

See you on the mats!
