Closed Guard & Open Day! 19/05/25 E17 BJJ Weekly Newsletter

Hi Team,

Our weekly update to keep you in the loop about what's being taught and what's going on!

This Week's Techniques -

Fundamentals - This week we are getting stuck back in to Closed Guard - one of the most fundamental and powerful guards in BJJ. Whether it's breaking posture, setting up submissions, or hitting sweeps, mastering the details of Closed Guard is key to building a solid foundation.

Fundamentals Plus - We will continue looking at X-Guard a versatile close distance guard. We will building on the concepts from last week, and exploring more sweeps and transitions to dominant positions, perfect for adding layers to your open guard game and improving your ability to control and off balance your opponent.

Bank Holiday Closure - Monday 26th May

We'll be closed on Monday 26th May for the bank holiday. Take the chance to rest, recover, and maybe drill some techniques at home. We'll be back on the mats on Wedensday as usual!

Open Day - Friday 30th May

Our next Open Day is happening Friday 30th May from 6:00pm - 8:30pm. The event will kick off with some Judo from Sensei Justin, an amazingly knowledgeable positive teacher, followed by some BJJ techniques, then into some open rounds of sparring. The last open Day was incredible, and this one promises to be even better!

Open to all clubs, come train, roll and connect with new people. After training we will have an Open Mat where you can mingle chat, drill or spar with different faces, don't miss it!

Our last open day, this is after 8/9 people had already left!

Tip of the Week - Break Them Down

Control the posture first! In closed guard, breaking your opponents posture is crucial. Once their posture is compromised, sweeps and submissions become far easier. Focus on controlling their head and arm positioning to limit their movement and open up your game.

Help us Grow!
