Hey guys,
Great to see such an awesome turnout for the Halloween open mat on Friday! The energy was brilliant — definitely something we’ll look to do more often in the future. The schedule is back to normal this week, so let’s jump straight back into some solid BJJ and Judo training.

This Week’s Focus
Gi Fundamentals: We’ll be working on the De La Riva guard — learning how to establish strong grips, maintain balance, and use your hook effectively to off-balance your opponent. From there, we’ll explore sweeps and submissions that flow naturally once you’ve got the right tension and posture.
No-Gi Fundamentals: This week is all about side control — how to apply pressure, manage frames, and transition smoothly into dominant positions like mount. We’ll also look at setting up submissions from control, focusing on using weight and timing rather than brute strength.
Judo: We’ll be practicing two foundational throws: O Uchi Gari (major inner reap) and Ko Soto Gari (minor outer reap). These are simple, high-percentage takedowns that pair beautifully together. The focus will be on balance, timing, and flowing between attacks to find the right moment to finish the throw.
💫 Upgrading Your Membership
A few of you have asked about upgrading from the 3x per week plan to Unlimited, which is amazing to see! Until our gym management software is set up, just speak to me directly — We will organise to cancel your current plan and move you to Unlimited starting from your next renewal date!
Winter Grading
Monday 1st December — mark it in your calendars!
Come down, support your teammates, and celebrate everyone’s progress together. It’s always one of the best nights of the year, afterwards we can go and eat and chill nearby!
Tip of the Week - “Consistency beats intensity.”
You don’t need to go 100% every session — you just need to keep showing up. The mat time adds up, and the small improvements become big progress before you even notice.
See you on the mats!
— Mouncif,
