New Classes, Same Progress - E17 BJJ Weekly Newsletter 06/04/2026

Hey everyone,

I’ll be away for the next two weeks as I head out to Morocco for the Rip & Roll camp. Really looking forward to it.

The next one will be running in November, and it would be great to see some more of you out there for it. It’s always a really special experience with great training, good people and a proper change of pace.

ALL NEW CLASSES

No matter your level, fundamentals remain important to improve!
No matter your level, fundamentals remain important to improve!

We’re adding additional Gi classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays, directly after the No Gi sessions.

These will be led by Hugo and Ryan and will run from:19:45 to 21:00

This gives you another opportunity to train during the week, especially if you finish work later, and more flexibility in how you structure your training.

These classes will follow a different curriculum, giving you even more choice in what you want to focus on.

This Week’s Focus

Gi Fundamentals (Monday & Wednesday) We’ll continue working on defending and escaping the back. Monday, Mehmet and Juan will be taking the class, and Wednesday Ryan and Juan will be showing how they like to approach escapes. The focus will be on staying safe, clearing hooks and working your way back to a stronger position.

NEW Gi Fundamentals (Tuesday & Thursday) with Hugo and Ryan We’ll be looking at toreando passing variations, focusing on controlling the legs, creating angles and moving around the guard efficiently.

No Gi Fundamentals with Hugo and Ryan We’ll continue working on closed guard, building on sweeps and submissions, and focusing on how to finish effectively from the top if you manage to progress into mount.

Gi Mixed with Christopher Macken (Friday) Following on from last week’s mount escape work, this week we’ll flip the position and look at attacks from mount, helping you understand both sides of the exchange.

Judo with Justin Justin is back this week and will be teaching Seoi Otoshi, focusing on timing, positioning and clean execution.

Teens No Gi with Ryan and Hugo You’ll be working on Americana from mount, before starting to revisit guard work to build confidence and skill when you’re on your back.

Community Event Reminder

Don’t forget our upcoming E17 BJJ Movie Night on Saturday 25th April.

Bring a pillow, some snacks, and come down to watch Choke, the classic documentary featuring Rickson Gracie. It’s a great chance to relax, hang out and spend some time together off the mats.

Tip of the Week "Win the small battles."

Before the sweep, there’s a grip.

Before the pass, there’s an angle.

Before the submission, there’s control.

Jiu Jitsu is built on small advantages. Focus on winning the little moments, and the bigger outcomes start taking care of themselves.

See you on the mats,

-Mouncif
