Hi team,
With the tube strikes happening this week, some of you might find yourselves working from home or with extra time on your hands. What better excuse to sneak in a few extra training sessions and keep building momentum on the mats?
Children's Programme - Ninja School!
Our new term for our children's programme, Ninja School, starts back up next week!
Do you have a son/daughter/niece/nephew who you want to have fun, get fit and move a little more?
We allow the children to learn through play, building their strength, dexterity and mindfulness. They learn Brazilian jiu-jitsu, a mixture of Muay Thai and dutch kickboxing and also learn to throw Ninja Stars so they can take part in our awesome shuriken battles each class!

Reception (from 5 years old) Yr1s, Yr2s - Wednesday 16:15 -17:30
Yr3s, Yr4s, Yr5s - Friday 16:15-17:30

This Week’s Classes
Gi Fundamentals - We’re continuing with our theme of putting it all together — covering a bit of everything and giving you space to connect the dots in your own game. Expect more live sparring opportunities as we move towards full rounds later in the week.
No Gi Fundamentals - This week we will be looking at passing the guard, working to north south and then isolating our partners arms. We will also talk a little about managing space from the bottom when we are in guard in No Gi.
Open Classes - Your time, your focus. Drill the techniques that need work, ask questions, or get those extra rounds in. Remember, open mats are for both Gi and No Gi, so come in whatever kit you like and take advantage of the free mat time.
E17 BJJ Social
This Friday, 12th September, after open class we’ll head over to The Nags Head (E17 9LP) from 8pm for food, drinks (alcohol free available of course), and good company. Our socials are a relaxed way to hang out off the mats, share a laugh, and strengthen the bonds that make E17 BJJ more than just a place to train. Whether you’ve been with us a week or since January, it’s a great chance to connect with the team.
Tip of the Week
Energy management is one of the hidden arts of Jiu Jitsu. Imagine two candles: one burns hot and fast, the other burns steady and controlled. The first fizzles out quickly, while the second lasts the night. On the mats, if you’re tense, holding your breath, or forcing every movement, you’ll drain your tank before the round is over. Breathe, relax, and let your technique do the work — the more mindful you are, the longer you’ll last and the sharper you’ll be.
Mindset for the Week
Progress in Jiu Jitsu often feels like holding separate puzzle pieces without seeing the full picture. Then, every so often, something clicks — the techniques, the timing, the flow — and the pieces start to fit. This week, focus less on collecting new pieces and more on noticing how they connect. Over time, the picture becomes clearer, and what once felt scattered begins to feel like your own game.
See you on the mats!
— Mouncif,
E17 BJJ
