Stay Safe, Pass Outside! - E17 BJJ Weekly Newsletter 17/11/25

Hey team,

Grading is just two weeks away, and the improvement across the room lately has been amazing to see. The timing, control, and confidence are all going up — a real testament to your consistency and hard work. Keep it going!

Schedule Note

This week Chris and I are away for the Rip & Roll Camp, but classes are fully covered:

Mon–Fri (Gi + No-Gi): Taught by Alaa, black belt and BJJ referee — loads of experience for you to learn from.

Saturday No-Gi: Taught by Mehmet, covering upper-body submissions.

Show up, learn, ask questions, and enjoy the variety this week brings!

This Week’s Focus

Mon–Fri (Gi + No-Gi) - Passing Outside the Guard. We’ll be looking at how to pass while staying outside the danger zone, keeping your legs safe and avoiding entanglements. Simple principles: distance, angles, and timing.

Saturday No-Gi - Darce & Guillotine Attacks. When your partner is recovering guard, openings appear. We’ll cover how to catch the Darce and Guillotine as they turn in, linking them together smoothly.

Judo - O Soto Gari. A clean, powerful basic throw — working on timing, balance, and making the entry feel natural and confident.

Tip of the Week

“Pay attention to the details your partners are catching you with.”

If someone keeps hitting you with the same sweep or escape, don’t ignore it — study it. That’s where the fastest improvement lives.

BJJ Jumpers and Rashguards

We have received our restock of jumpers, so if you want one, speak to Juan or text me and I will sort it out when I am back! Rashguards are also available for £26 on site in all sizes!

Have a great week, enjoy learning from Alaa and Mehmet, and I’ll see you all next Monday! ✌️
