Hi Team!
Hope you’ve all had a great weekend! A quick reminder that E17 BJJ T-shirts are now available – grab one and rep the team on and off the mats.
Class Updates
The Fundamentals classes on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday will stay as they are, focusing on solid foundations for everyone.
The second classes on Wednesday and Friday are getting a bit of a revamp for the summer.
I’ve been thinking for a while about how to give you all what you most need at this stage. For the next few months, these sessions will run as Open Classes.
That means:
✅ You can work on anything you want – techniques from fundamentals, areas you struggle with, or questions you’ve been sitting on.
✅ I’ll be there to help troubleshoot, guide, and answer questions.
✅ The last 20–30 minutes will be sparring-focused (situational drills + open rolls).
✅ You don’t have to stay the whole time – dip in, get reps on what you want, and head off if needed.
When the full gym is open, these kind of guided sessions will only be accessible through the top tier of membership so take advantage of this while its available!
This is a great chance to take charge of your own learning and start building towards safe, confident, full BJJ rolls!
This Week’s Focus
Fundamentals: Escaping back mount This week we will look at the opposite side of the coin and look at how we can prevent ourselves getting choked in back mount for long enough to escape our partners back mount!
Second Class: Our first two Open Class sessions – come experiment and level up your game.
E17 BJJ BBQ- This Sunday 3pm (Weather Permitting!)
Bring something to throw on the grill, come hang out, eat good food, and get to know each other off the mats.
Bring a partner, friend or even family, it will be happening in the Welcome Centre, like normal classes but in the garden behind (you have to go into the actual Welcome Centre to get in first though!)

Schedule Note
Monday & Wednesday: I’ll be teaching.
Friday: Emmanuel will take the class (you’re in good hands!).
Next Week: I’ll be back Monday, then away again for the rest of the week.
Tip of the Week - Escaping Back Mount:
Your #1 priority when someone takes your back is protecting your neck. Before you think about escaping, make sure you’re fighting the hands, keeping your chin tucked, and stopping the choke before it’s set.
Once your neck is safe, work to get your shoulders to the mat – flattening one shoulder removes their main control and opens the door for your escape.
Hope to see you on the mats!
