Hey everyone, what a weekend!

Great Sesh!
Great Sesh!

A huge thank you to everyone who came down for Hugo’s Armbar Funnel Seminar. We got into loads of great detail around escaping, chasing the arm through different reactions, finding the armbar and the different ways to finish.

And of course, the seminar wouldn’t be complete without some food afterwards. Coal & Mutton absolutely smashed it with the suya and chicken wings. Add in some glorious October weather and it was a pretty good Saturday. 🔥🥋

Lumo Is LIVE!

The time has come. Lumo is now live for E17!

From this week, all adult class bookings need to be made through the app.

If you’re already set up, you're good to go. If you still need help registering, message Mouncif or Richard and we’ll get you sorted.

Remember, your membership, pricing and payment plan remain exactly the same. Lumo is simply making the booking, check-in and training side of things much easier.

7AM BJJ Starts Next Week

Our new 7AM No-Gi classes with Jacob "Caveman" Gkatzoflias start next week!

Monday & Wednesday | 07:00

Perfect for getting your training in before the day gets started.

If they go well, we’ll be looking at expanding the early morning timetable even further.

🥋 Caveman | Guard Passing Seminar

To Celebrate Jacob joining our team, our next seminar is coming up with Jacob "Caveman" Gkatzoflias, this time focusing on Guard Passing.

We’ll be launching the full details and booking link in the next few days, so keep your eyes peeled on Lumo and Instagram.

Women’s Only BJJ | Starting 17 October

Our Women’s Only class with Jenny Weeks is being pushed back by one week while Jenny gets herself moved into her new home!

The class will now start Saturday 17 October, 13:15–14:30.

We’ll be starting with Gi, and seeing how things develop from there.

Women’s Taster Session | 24 October

On Saturday 24 October, we’ll be running a big Women’s Only Taster Session for up to 24 women.

This will replace the normal Women’s Only class for this week only, and we’re looking for some friendly volunteers from our women’s team to help Jenny make everyone feel comfortable and welcome.

It’s also a great chance for existing members of the women’s team to show people that you don’t need years of experience to belong on the mats.

The bigger idea is simple: grow the number of women training at E17 and in BJJ as a whole.

If you can help out, let me know! Text me Mouncif for the details

Moonlight Rashguards

The Moonlight Rashguards have landed!

A different take on our usual rashguard, with the black colourway that so many of you have been asking for. Perfect timing for spooky season. 🖤👻

Available through the Shop section of Lumo or directly from the gym.

Yonder | Free Climbing Days

Our friends at Yonder, just next to Blackhorse Road station, are offering E17 members free climbing sessions throughout October.

Your visit includes the induction, climbing shoes and chalk, so you can turn up and give it a proper go.

There’s plenty of crossover with BJJ too: movement, problem solving, physical challenges and figuring out how to get yourself out of trouble.

Tip of the Week

Anticipate the next move.

When you’re attacking, don’t just think about what you want to do next. Start thinking about what your opponent is likely to do next.

If you’re working towards an armbar and you know they’re likely to turn, where does that take you?

If they start framing, what are they trying to create?

If they move their hips, what are they looking for?

The better you get at recognising those movements before they happen, the less you’ll feel like you’re reacting and the more you’ll feel like you’re already one step ahead. Don’t just chase the technique. Chase the next move.

See you on the mats!
