Getting Chilly - E17 BJJ Weekly Newsletter | 13/10/26
Hey everyone,
It’s been a quieter couple of weeks on the mats, with illness making its way around London, so it’s understandable! Hopefully, we’ll see a few more faces back this week as we get closer to our Winter Grading. It’s always a special time at E17, celebrating the progress everyone has made and how far you’ve come.
Plenty happening over the next few weeks, so here’s what’s coming up!
Lumo | Book & Check In
A quick reminder to book your classes through Lumo and remember to check in when you arrive.
We’re looking at ways to make checking in even easier, so watch this space!
Welcome to the 7AM Club!

Our first 7AM No-Gi session kicked off yesterday, with a great turnout for the early start!
Caveman brings plenty of energy to the morning, making it a brilliant way to start your day. With showers available afterwards, you can head straight to work with that lovely post-training zen, knowing your evening is free for everything else life throws at you.
Monday & Wednesday | 07:00
Come join the morning crew!
Women’s Only BJJ Starts This Saturday!

We’re excited to get our Women’s Only Gi classes underway with Jenny this Saturday!
It’s a chance to have some dedicated mat time with a female practitioner, build confidence and keep levelling up your Jiu Jitsu.
Know someone who’s been waiting for these classes to start? Let them know and invite them down for a free trial!
Women’s Taster Session | Saturday 24 October

Next week, our usual Women’s Only class will pause for one week while we run our big Women’s Taster Session, with space for 24 participants.
We’re already over 60% booked, which is brilliant!
A few of you have also reached out to volunteer and help Jenny during the session. Thank you! It’ll make a real difference for people coming to their first class to meet women who have recently been through those same nerves and know what it’s like to start something new.
Showing newcomers that there’s a place for them in BJJ is exactly what this is all about. 💙
Caveman Seminar | Attacking the Guard

Got a pesky guard that keeps giving you trouble? Want to put your opponent on the back foot, break through their defences and dominate the exchange?
This seminar is for you!
Jacob "Caveman" Gkatzoflias will be taking us through his approach to Attacking the Guard, focusing on passing with an offensive mindset. Rather than relying on a single pass or constantly reacting to your opponent, the goal is to create multiple threats, force reactions and use those reactions to open up new opportunities. That could mean finding a better passing position, moving into dominant control or creating opportunities to finish the fight.
The idea is to dictate the exchange, stay one step ahead and make your opponent deal with your game.
Sunday 8 November | 13:30 | E17 BJJ
The seminar takes place after open mat, so come down, get some rounds in and stick around to learn from Caveman.
Winter Grading | Date Coming Soon
We’ll be announcing the date for our Winter Grading sometime this week, so keep your eyes peeled!
Grading is always a special occasion for our community. It’s a chance to recognise the work you’ve put in, celebrate your progress and appreciate how much you’ve developed, both on and off the mats. More details coming soon!

Tip of the Week
Keep Your Nails Short! ✂️
A small thing that makes a big difference to everyone's training.
Keep your fingernails and toenails trimmed.
Nobody enjoys getting scratched during a roll, and in Gi, long nails can catch on the fabric, potentially injuring you or your training partner. Good hygiene and looking after your training partners are part of being a good member of the team.
Sharp technique, not sharp nails. 😉
See you on the mats!
