Hi team,
Just a small update this week to let you know what to expect from our classes!
What's On This Week?
Fundamentals - We're diving deeper into the De La Riva (DLR) guard. Our primary focus will be to constantly off balance our opponents so that we can find wrestle-ups and sweeps, building towards a slightly more advanced technique towards the end of the week. Expect to sharpen your timing and learn how to flip the script form bottom to top with confidence.
Fundamentals Plus- We will be continue to work on guard passing from the Headquarters position - a strong, controlling stance that lets you dictate the pace. We'll be breaking down the mechanics of staying heavy maintaining base, and slicing though defences. This is definitely help you solidify your top game and improve your understanding of passes.
Tip of the Week - Use your bones, not just your muscles
When it comes to maintaining distance and controlling pressure in Jiu-jitsu, the key is not just strength- its structure. Think of your skeleton as the framework of a building. Just like a well placed stick can hold weight without effort, your bones, when alligned correctly, can bear significant pressure without relying on muscle strength. Muscles tire out; bones don't. This is the essence of proper framing.
What are Frames?
Frames are built using your limbs- typically your forearms, hands and sometimes your shins- to create strong structural points that prevent your opponent from closing the distance or advancing position. In positions like defending against a guard pass or escaping side control, proper framing allows you to control your opponent's pressure without overexerting your muscles.
