E17 BJJ Weekly Newsletter | 28/10/26

Hey everyone,

A slightly late newsletter this week as I’ve been travelling and getting settled in!

Ryan will be away competing until 2 November, so I’ll be taking the classes until he’s back. Chris is also off travelling, teaching at the BJJ & Yoga Mallorca Festival. Busy times for the team!

A big thank you to everyone who helped out at our Women’s Taster Session this weekend. It was great to see so many of our women supporting new people as they took their first steps into BJJ. That's what building a community is all about!

📱 Lumo | Adult Onboarding Nearly Complete!

All adults should now have been onboarded onto Lumo. You’ve been doing a great job booking and checking in for classes, so thank you for helping us make the switch!

If you’re having any issues, or still need to finish setting up your profile, please contact me or Richard and we’ll help you get sorted.

Our next step is getting our youth members onboarded, so we can bring everyone into one place.

And remember, only sessions you've checked in for count towards your training stats, so make sure you scan in when you arrive!

📸 NEW | Share Your Training!

There’s something new in the E17 BJJ app: you can now turn your training progress into a picture ready to share on Instagram Stories! Whether you’ve just finished a class, hit a milestone or want to show off your monthly progress, you can create a personalised training card in seconds.

How to share your training

🥋 After a class - Once you’ve checked in, head to Home, where you’ll see “Another session in the books”. Tap Share My Training.

🏆 Hit a milestone? - When you reach 10, 25, 50 or 100 classes, tap Share next to your celebration.

📊 Show your progress - Head to Progress to share your monthly sessions, hours on the mats, weekly streak or a milestone you’ve already reached.

Make it yours

Choose from three designs to create your training card.

The photo design lets you add your own picture behind the stats. Your photo stays on your phone, and your name only appears if you choose to include it.

Once you're happy with your design, tap Share and send it straight to Instagram, WhatsApp or wherever you like. If sharing works differently on your phone, you can save the image and upload it from your photos instead.

And if you post yours, tag us @e17bjj! We’ll share some of our favourites. Remember, your stats only count classes you've checked in for, so don't forget to scan in!

🥋 Caveman | Attacking the Guard Seminar

Our next seminar is coming up quickly!

On Sunday 8 November at 13:30, Jacob "Caveman" Gkatzoflias will be taking us through his Attacking the Guard system.

The idea is to stop simply reacting to your opponent's guard and start putting them under pressure. Learn how to create multiple threats, force reactions and use those reactions to open up passing opportunities and dominant positions.

If you've been struggling to get past certain guards, or want to develop a more proactive approach to passing, this is a great opportunity to sharpen your game.

📅 Coming Up

Sunday 8 November - Caveman | Attacking the Guard Seminar

23–28 November - Rip & Roll III | Anza, Morocco 🇲🇦

Keep an eye on Lumo and Instagram for more details and booking information.

💡 Tip of the Week

Make Them Carry Your Weight

When you're on top, don't think only about what technique you're going to use next. Think about how much effort your opponent has to spend just to hold you off.

Are they using their arms to push you away? Constantly adjusting their hips? Burning energy trying to create space?

Good top control makes your opponent work while allowing you to stay relatively relaxed.

Instead of rushing to pass or attack, take a moment to settle your weight, remove their space and make them deal with your position.

The more energy they spend defending, the fewer options they'll have to attack.

Sometimes, the best thing you can do is make your opponent carry you.

See you on the mats!
