Hey team,
Hope you all had a great weekend and are feeling ready for another solid week on the mats!
Big well done to everyone who trained last week – loads of good energy as we worked on side control escapes. The ideas of frames, shrimping and recovering guard are ones that you will use in every roll, at every belt level!
New E17 BJJ T-Shirts Available
Our new E17 BJJ t-shirts have landed! Clean design, soft material, and a great way to show some club pride on or off the mats.
They’re £20 and available in a range of sizes – just ask if you’d like to try one on or grab one after class.

This Week’s Training Focus:
Fundamentals: We’re working on single leg takedowns, and chaining them into a guard pass to get us to side control. Its best to capitalise on the takedown before you partner starts wrapping you up in their guard!
Intermediate (formally Fundamentals Plus): This week’s class will focus on north-south escapes, with speed drills to sharpen transitions, and plenty of live sparring to finish.
Great for anyone looking to develop composure under pressure and cleaner movement in tight spaces.
Community BBQ – Sunday 3rd August @ 3pm
We’re hosting a chilled BBQ in the gym garden on Sunday 3rd August from 3pm. It’s a great chance to relax off the mats, meet faces from other classes, and just hang out together. Friends and partners are all welcome – feel free to bring a side dish or drinks if you're up for it!
Tip of the Week: Shift their weight before you lift
A clean single leg doesn’t start with pulling — it starts with weight distribution. Use your movement or frames to shift their weight onto the far leg. That makes the near leg lighter, easier to lift, and harder for them to sprawl.
Looking forward to another week of great training, fun, and progress.
See you all on the mats!
– Mouncif
