Hey team,
A big week ahead! We’re kicking things off with Grading today — can’t wait to celebrate everyone’s progress this evening. It's been great to see all for the hard work you’ve been putting in recently. After grading, we’ll head out together for a meal and a chilled hang — would love to see as many of you there as possible.
This Week’s Focus
Gi: Grading + Sparring Week: Tonight is grading, and for the rest of the week we’ll keep the focus light on new techniques and heavy on sparring variations. A great chance to move, roll, experiment, and enjoy the momentum after grading.
No-Gi: Escaping Back Control -Back control is one of the toughest positions to deal with, so this week we’ll work on:
Protecting your neck first
Clearing hooks safely
Turning at the right angle and moment
Using frames and hip movement to escape with purpose
These principles will make your back escapes far more reliable.
Judo: We’ll continue taking a look at tai-otoshi, a clean, fundamental throw based on timing, direction and using your partner’s movement rather than strength. Perfect to link into top control.

E17 BJJ Jumpers & Rashguards
We still have a few E17 BJJ jumpers available — they are very warm and perfect for this colder weather!
New rashguards are also available at St Mary’s. If you only attend No-Gi sessions, just let me know and I’ll bring one for you.
Tip of the Week - Stay present, not perfect.
Whether you’re grading, sparring, or learning something new — don’t chase perfection. Focus on being present, making good decisions, and improving one moment at a time. That’s where the real progress happens.
See you all tonight for grading
— Mouncif,
E17 BJJ
