New Beginners Muay Thai - E17 BJJ Weekly Newsletter
Hi everyone,
Hope you've all had a great week! We've got a few changes coming into the timetable this week, including our new Muay Thai Intro & Beginners classes and a brand new Saturday children's BJJ class. We've also got Ryan's seminar coming up this weekend, so plenty to get involved with over the next few weeks.
Don't Forget About the App
If you haven't started using Lumo yet, now is definitely the time to get on it.
The app is becoming the best place to keep up with what's happening at E17 BJJ. All of the techniques and topics being taught each week are now being added by the coaches, along with descriptions, so you can see what you'll be working on before you come to class. You can also use it to book your classes, check in, keep track of your attendance and training, and make use of the other features we're continuing to build.
If you haven't claimed your account yet, head to:
Use the email address we have registered for you and follow the instructions to get set up.
We're still improving and adding to the app, but it's already becoming a really useful part of your training at E17. If you're not using it yet, give it a go this week.
New Muay Thai Intro & Beginners Classes
From this week, we're introducing dedicated Intro & Beginners Muay Thai classes.
These sessions will be a little less intense than our regular Muay Thai classes, with a bigger focus on building the fundamentals and getting comfortable with the basics.
We'll be working on:
Fundamental punches and kicks
Stance and movement
Basic combinations
Understanding distance and positioning
Shorter, more manageable combinations
If you've been thinking about trying Muay Thai but haven't quite felt ready to jump into a busier class, these sessions are for you.
They're also a great way to build your foundations before moving into the more advanced sessions.
Ryan Nee Crucifix Seminar
This weekend!
On Saturday 5th September, we'll be joined by Ryan Nee for his Crucifix Seminar.
The crucifix is one of Ryan's specialist areas and is a seriously effective position for controlling your opponent and creating submission opportunities.
Expect plenty of details around entries, control, transitions and finishes, with Ryan breaking down the system he's used successfully at the highest level of competition.
If you haven't booked yet, get your ticket now.

New Saturday Children's BJJ Class
We're also adding a brand new Saturday BJJ class for children from Reception through to Year 6.
This gives our younger members another opportunity to train during the week and opens up a Saturday option for families who can't make the weekday sessions.
Saturday | 09:00 to 10:00 - Reception to Year 6
If you've got a child, younger sibling, niece, nephew or family friend who might enjoy BJJ, they're welcome to come and try it out.
Or if you wish to start training more than once a week, reach out to increase your membership!
Teens BJJ
A small timetable change for our Teens programme, from this week, Tuesday and Thursday Teens classes will both be Gi classes, so make sure you bring your Gi along for both sessions.
This Week's Classes
We're keeping the detailed class breakdown out of the newsletter now that the app is up and running.
All class topics and focuses are being added directly into Lumo by the coaches, so you can see exactly what you'll be working on before you book into a session.
If you haven't already, make sure you've claimed your account and start getting into the habit of checking the app before training.
Coming Up
5th September - Ryan Nee Crucifix Seminar
12th September - AGC Friendly Competition
3rd October - Hugo Dvorecky Armbar Seminar
23rd to 28th November - Rip & Roll Morocco
Tip of the Week
Slow Down to Speed Up
When you're learning a new technique, there's a temptation to try to do it at full speed straight away, instead, slow the movement down.
Pay attention to where your hands are, where your weight is, what your partner's position feels like and what happens between each step. If you can perform the movement slowly with control, you'll understand it much better when you eventually speed it up.
When drilling, don't worry about looking impressive. Make the movement clean first, then make it fast. Speed is much easier to develop when you already know exactly what you're trying to do.
See you on the mats!
