Hi Team,
Hope you have had a great weekend and enjoyed the weather.
Was great to see so many people on the mats training last week, I hope to see you all this week too!

This Week's Techniques
Fundamentals: This week we taking a look at Half Guard Passing. Half guard is one of the most common positions you’ll encounter, and learning how to pass it with strong posture, good balance, and the right angles is essential. Expect drills that emphasise control and pressure.
Fundamentals Plus: We will also be looking at Half Guard Passing, but we will be exploring more nuanced approaches, incorportating transitions to other guard passes to give you alternative options to explore when you opponents defends.
Coming Up – Video Shoot This Wednesday!
This Wednesday we’ll be filming a promo video to help share what makes E17 BJJ so special—and we’d love for YOU to be part of it. Come down, bring good energy, fill the mats, and train as usual. Some short interviews will also be happening, so if you’re up for sharing your journey, that would mean a lot. The more of our community in the footage, the stronger the message we can send!
Mid-Year Grading – Monday 30th June
Save the date: Monday 30th June will be our mid-year grading and celebration of (Almost) being 6 months since E17 BJJ opened its doors! After class, we will head off to the nearby pub for a couple bevvies and some food! Comer and join us, always lovely to get to know everyone outside of the gym also.
Tip of the Week – Make Space, Take Space
One of the core principles in BJJ is understanding space. When you’re defending, your job is to make space—create frames, shift your hips, and get breathing room so you can move on your own terms. When you’re attacking, your goal is the opposite: take space away. Stay connected, apply pressure, and don’t give your partner the room they need to escape—especially in slow, methodical passes.
I know its a warm week ahead, but I hope to see you on the mats!
