Hey team,
Busy week last week — the mats have been buzzing!
Great to see so many people putting in work and giving the new Judo classes a go. It’s crazy to think we’re already halfway through October — time really does fly when you’re training hard.
This Week’s Focus
Gi Fundamentals - We’ll be working on open guard retention — how to prevent our guards from being passed so easily, manage distance, and stay calm under pressure. The goal is to build a more resilient guard that allows you to weather attacks and recover to strong, attacking positions.

No-Gi Fundamentals - We’ll explore how to use snap downs to gain head control, open up Darce choke opportunities, and create transitions to the back. Expect to refine your entries, control, and finishing mechanics while learning to chain these attacks together with purpose and flow.
Judo - Our focus this week will be on breakfalls (ukemi) and the standing throw Uke Goshi (hip throw) — a core technique for red belt and an essential building block for your Judo foundation. We’ll be looking at how to create kuzushi (off-balancing), maintain hip connection, and execute smooth, safe throws with control and timing.

🎃 Halloween BJJ – Friday, 31st October
Get spooky! Bring your masks, capes, wings, or whatever weirdness you’ve got lying around.
Expect some chaotic rolls, lots of laughs, and maybe a few surprise submissions… A little chaos, a lot of fun — let’s make it one to remember.
Tip of the Week
When you’re stuck in bad positions, don’t panic — frames and posture come before escapes.
If your opponent is passing, focus on keeping your elbows close, knees active, and head off the mat. A strong defensive structure buys you the time and space to recover safely — panic only gives your opponent what they want.
Mindset of the Week
Defence isn't defeat. Surviving tough positions isn't a setback - it's progress. Every time you defend and recover, you're sharpening your awareness and mental resilience. You don't need to win every exchange; sometimes the victory is simply staying in the fight.
